Chief Justice John Roberts recently sent Judge Danny Boggs a letter congratulating him on 30 years of service as a Sixth Circuit judge. Judge Boggs is the longest-serving active Sixth Circuit judge. Next in seniority comes Judge Alice Batchelder, who will reach 25 years of service in December. The longest judges currently serving are Senior Judges Damon Keith and Gilbert Merritt, both of whom will hit the 40-year mark next year. At the other end of the spectrum, the shortest serving current judge is Judge Bernice B. Donald, who has been on the bench for almost five years. She is the last judge confirmed at the Sixth Circuit, and there is presently one open seat (in Kentucky).
